Custom Netherlands golf vacations
Harry Colt’s most under appreciated playground, The Netherlands, is the best golf country you’ve never considered.
In the early 1900s, many of the courses still regarded as best in the world had already been built, but the vocation of golf course architect was not yet professionalized in any significant way. One of the figures most closely associated with the professionalization of the field is Harry Colt, the architect of courses like Muirfield, Royal Portrush, Sunningdale New, Toronto Golf Club & Hamilton Golf Club, Rye, Hoylake, and dozens more.
From 1927–1939 Colt, Allison, and Morrison Ltd. designed four courses within a 90-minute drive of the centre of Amsterdam—three of which are within an hour from the capital city. While the depth in the country pales in comparison to Scotland, England, or Ireland, the top end is great and geographically compact enough to be more than enough for a 5-7 day long trip.
